Avatar Paragraph

Hi, my name is Boo, I was created by Andrea. She is AWESOME! In this picture (right), Andrea is showing what she wants to make in the future. This machine comes in gold, silver, sequin, and all colors of the rainbow. It is a jetpack that releases cakes! Instead of fuel you load in icing! Andrea loved creating it! Peace.

PROBLEM:

How Do We Build a Catapult?

ASK:

What is Our Challenge?

The Angry Bird Competition is on … Angry Bird and Piggy Friends unite! To retrieve your stolen eggs, Angry Birds, your team will need to build a catapult with only the materials provided to you, as outlined in the following steps of this “Small Group Challenge: Marshmallow Catapults”:
Challenge: Each group will design and build a marshmallow catapult using the following materials: 1 meter of masking tape; 2 plastic cups; 4 rubber bands; 2 plastic spoons; 2 paper clips; 15 cm x 15 cm piece of cardboard; large (standard size) and small (mini size) marshmallows to launch.
Goal: Launch a marshmallow at least 5 meters (in the air) and not outside of a ½ meter width.

A catapult was a weapon that was used to fling an object from one place to another (It used to be used mostly in war). A catapult gets its energy by people winding a nob till the arm was at ground level, and then someone puts a heavy object (like a rock) in the arm and lets it fling. I think if I was making a catapult I would use the following: glue, toothpicks, cardboard, popsicle sticks, pencils, and rubber bands.

What are Some Solutions?

What is the Best Possible Solution?

Why did Our Team Choose This Solution?

Our catapult was the Mangonel. Our team chose Eamonn’s catapult design because, first we had already eliminated my catapult design because it had a design flaw, and then we voted on Megan and Eamonn’s design. Eamonn’s ended up winning. So then we started to build his, and we realized that his shooting devise was not strong enough. So after a little bit of thinking, Megan suggested using her shooting devise and we all agreed. And it worked! I very much enjoyed building my catapult with my team.

Something that worked was our catapult shot far. But it did not go that high (I mean sometimes it went really far, but it did not count because it bounced off the ground). We also could have aimed a little bit more for accuracy. That is how I would improve my catapult.
